Privacy Policy

CloudEx Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the "Screen Translator Pro" app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the Service, you are deemed to have agreed to the practices described in this Policy.

1. Our Core Principle

Screen Translator Pro translates the text on your screen right where it appears. When you tap the floating translate button over a game, an app from another country, manga, or any other app, it reads the text on the screen and shows each translation on top of the original text. It can also translate an area you choose, an image, or text you type, paste, share, or select. Screen capture, text recognition, language identification, and translation all run on your device using Google ML Kit. What is on your screen and what you translate are yours: we never view, collect, upload, or transmit them to our servers. There is no account and no sign-up. Specifically, we do not have access to any of the following:

  • The screen images the app captures, or the contents of the other apps you use
  • The text recognized on your screen or in images, the text you type, paste, share, or select for translation, or the translations
  • The images you choose to translate
  • Your translation history and your word replacements

Each translation model is downloaded once from Google's servers, but downloading a model does not send your text or images. Text is passed outside the app only through actions you take yourself: copying or sharing a translation, opening it in the Google Translate app, having it read aloud, or exporting your history (Section 2).

2. Screen Capture, Text Recognition, and Translation

  • Screen capture: To read the text on your screen, the app uses Android's screen capture feature (MediaProjection), and only after you agree in Android's own consent dialog. The screen is captured only when you ask for a translation, such as by tapping the translate button. The one exception is the Premium feature "Re-translate automatically when the screen changes": while this auto mode is running, the app watches the screen and reads it again only when it changes, and the app's notification shows that it is auto-translating (if you have allowed notifications). Before each capture, the app hides its own windows so that it does not read its own button or translations.
  • Captured images: A captured image contains whatever is shown on the screen at that moment, which may include messages or notifications. It is processed in memory on your device only to read the text and show the translations, and it is not saved and is not sent anywhere.
  • Apps that block screen capture: Some apps, such as many banking and video apps, block screen capture. Their screens appear black, and the app cannot read them.
  • Stopping screen capture: Tapping Exit in the app's notification removes the translate button and ends screen capture. Screen capture also ends when you stop screen sharing from Android's status bar or, on recent Android versions, when the screen locks; Android then asks for your consent again the next time you tap the button.
  • Text recognition and language identification: The text in captured images is read on your device by Google ML Kit text recognition (Latin, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Devanagari scripts), and its language is identified on your device by ML Kit. The recognition modules are delivered to your device by Google Play services.
  • Translation: Translation is performed on your device by Google ML Kit Translation. Each language needs a model of about 30 MB, which is downloaded once from Google's servers (English is built in); after that, translation works offline. You can choose "Download only on Wi-Fi", and you can delete downloaded models in "Translation models".
  • Technical information sent by ML Kit: Google ML Kit may send Google technical information, such as the device model, OS version, app and API version, and performance metrics, to maintain and improve ML Kit. This information does not include your screen images or your text. It is handled by Google under its own privacy policy.
  • Images you choose to translate: You choose an image with Android's photo picker or share it to the app from another app. The image is processed on your device and is not uploaded. If you share a translated image, the app writes a temporary JPEG file to its own cache and hands it to the app you choose.
  • Text you choose to translate: Text you type or paste in the app, share to it, or send to it from the text selection menu of another app is translated on your device in the same way.
  • "Google Translate": When you tap "Google Translate" on a translation, the text of that translation box is handed to the Google Translate app, which handles it under Google's own policy. This option appears only when the Google Translate app is installed; the app never puts your text into a web address.
  • Read aloud (Premium): Translations are read aloud by the text-to-speech engine installed on your device, which you choose in Android's settings (for example, one provided by Google or by your device maker). The translated text is passed to that engine and handled under its provider's policy.
  • Copy, share, and export: When you copy a translation, it is placed on Android's clipboard. When you share a translation or export your history, the text goes only to the app you choose in Android's share sheet (a long export is handed over as a temporary file). We never receive any of it.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Information Collected Automatically

  • Crash reports: Via Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes, we collect the stack trace, device model, OS version, app version, and a random installation identifier. This does not include your name or contact details, your screen images, the text you translate, or your translation history.
  • Purchase information: We use purchase tokens issued by Google Play to verify your one-time "Premium" purchase. We never receive any payment information such as credit card numbers.
  • List of our other apps: To show our other apps, the app downloads their names, descriptions, and icons from our content server (static files hosted on Cloudflare Pages). The request contains no personal data from the app. As with any request to a web server, the server receives your device's IP address as part of the connection. Tapping an app in the list opens its page on Google Play.

3.2 Information Stored Only on Your Device

  • Translation history (Premium): When "Save history" is on, each translation of the screen, an image, or text is saved in a database on your device: the original text, the translation, the languages, and the date and time. Screen images are not saved. The newest 3,000 entries are kept, and older entries without a star are deleted automatically. You can search, star, copy, share, export, and delete entries, and you can turn off "Save history" to stop recording.
  • App settings: Your languages, display settings, word replacements, the position and size of the translate button, the theme, and your purchase status are stored on your device.
  • Translation models: The language models you download are stored on your device until you delete them in "Translation models".
  • Temporary files: A translated image you share, and a long history export, are written as temporary files to the app's cache on your device so that they can be handed to the app you choose.
  • Android backup: If backup is turned on in your device settings, Android may include the app's settings (including your word replacements and purchase status) and your translation history in the backup it saves to your own Google account, and may copy them to a new phone when you transfer your data directly. A small file that records the state of review and update prompts is excluded. This is handled by Android; we have no access to it.
  • When you uninstall: Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes the translation history, settings, and other data stored in the app's own storage.

3.3 Information We Explicitly Do Not Collect

  • Your screen images, or the contents of other apps
  • The text recognized on your screen or in images, the text you translate, or the translations
  • The images you choose to translate
  • Your translation history and your word replacements
  • Your name, email address, phone number, or contacts (the app has no account or sign-up)
  • Your location, or anything from your camera or microphone (the app does not use them)
  • An advertising ID (the app does not use one)
  • A history of the websites you visit or the contents of your communications

3.4 Permissions the App Requests and Their Purposes

To show its translate button over other apps and read the screen, Screen Translator Pro needs a few OS permissions. It uses them only for the stated purposes:

  • Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — Shows the floating translate button, the translations on top of the original text, and the other windows the app places over other apps, such as area selection and the translation panel. This permission alone does not let the app read the screen.
  • Foreground service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE) — Keeps the translate button running while you use other apps.
  • Foreground service for screen capture (FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PROJECTION) — Used for screen capture, only after you have agreed in Android's own consent dialog.
  • Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, Android 13+) — Shows the ongoing notification with Translate, Area, and Exit buttons while the translate button is on.
  • Internet and network state (INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) — Used only for downloading translation models (including checking whether you are on Wi-Fi for "Download only on Wi-Fi"), crash reports, Google Play purchase verification, in-app reviews and in-app updates, downloading the list of our other apps, and showing this privacy policy in the app. Once the models are on your device, text recognition and translation do not require an internet connection.
  • Google Play billing (com.android.vending.BILLING) — Used for the one-time Premium purchase through Google Play.

The app does not request the camera, microphone, location, contacts, or storage (photos and videos) permissions, and it does not use an Accessibility Service. Images you translate are chosen with Android's photo picker, which gives the app access only to the image you select.

4. How We Use Information

The limited information we collect is used only for the following purposes:

  • Operating and maintaining the Service
  • Verifying your Premium purchase
  • Diagnosing and fixing crashes
  • Responding to support inquiries
  • Complying with applicable laws

5. Third-Party Services

Screen Translator Pro uses the following third-party services. Each service has its own privacy policy.

  • Google ML Kit (Google LLC) — on-device text recognition, language identification, and translation; the recognition modules are delivered by Google Play services and the translation models are downloaded from Google's servers, and ML Kit may send technical information as described in Section 2
  • Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) — crash diagnostic data
  • Google Play Billing (Google LLC) — the one-time Premium purchase; payment is completed on Google Play, and we receive only a purchase token
  • Google Play In-App Review and In-App Updates (Google LLC) — let you rate the app and install updates without leaving it; handled by Google Play
  • Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc.) — hosts the static list of our other apps

The Google Translate app and your device's text-to-speech engine are used only when you choose them, and they handle text under their providers' own policies (Section 2).

Screen Translator Pro does not share your data with advertising networks.

6. Data Retention

  • Screen images: not retained. They are processed in memory only while the text is read and translated.
  • Crash reports: retained for 90 days, then deleted.
  • Support emails: retained for 12 months after the last reply, then deleted (except where legally required).
  • Your translation history, settings, word replacements, and translation models on your device: kept until you delete them, uninstall the app, or clear the app's data. The translation history keeps the newest 3,000 entries; older entries without a star are deleted automatically.

7. International Data Transfers

We are based in Japan. The infrastructure used for crash diagnostics, for delivering the text recognition modules and translation models, and for hosting the list of our other apps may be located in various countries. When you use the Service, the minimal information described above may be processed outside your country of residence under standard contractual safeguards.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you reside (e.g., the EEA, UK, California, Japan), you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the limited information we hold. You can:

  • Delete individual entries or use "Delete history" in the History tab (starred entries are kept until you remove their star or delete them), or turn off "Save history" to stop recording
  • Uninstall the app or clear its data to erase the translation history, settings, and other data stored on your device
  • Stop screen capture at any time by tapping Exit in the app's notification or by stopping screen sharing from the status bar, or withdraw the "Display over other apps" or notification permission in your device settings at any time
  • Delete downloaded translation models in "Translation models"
  • Contact us at the address below to make a request regarding the information we hold

9. Children's Privacy

Screen Translator Pro is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age applicable in your region). If we inadvertently collect information from such a child, we will delete it promptly upon being contacted.

10. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The latest version is always published at this URL together with its effective date. We will also notify you within the app of significant changes as appropriate.
